7th Grade Civics

Seventh grade Civics is designed to explore the foundations of American citizenship, the three branches of government, political parties and interest groups, local, state, and national governments, the economy and the free enterprise system.  Students will use  historical documents, case studies, debates, and articles to practice skills of interpreting, predicting, analyzing, comparing, and categorizing information.  Seventh graders use guided reading notes, web and graphic organizers, and other learning techniques in the classroom.  Vocabulary in all areas of government is emphasized.  Students will utilize hands-on activities, learning tools and use strategies such as annotating important information.  Power points, flip charts, DVDs, and internet research will enhance learning and reinforce skills and concepts.

Students will  participate in several interactive group activities  throughout the school year i.e. creating a political party, organizing a platform to present in a classroom "National Convention."  Students will also form a special interest group and create a brochure depicting their interest and will present to the class. It is an active and exciting class to be a part of!
